Marcus and Matthew

Marcus (left) and Matthew (right) - March 2017

They were both so healthy then. So much has changed.

Matthew died this summer while I was holding her. She had lost a lot of weight. When I finally took her into the vet, he took blood work because he wasn't sure what was going on. The blood work showed that there was cancer in her body. Dr. Anderson felt it had been in her digestive system/Intestinal tract and that was why she wasn't able to absorb nutrients.

Within a week she was gone. It was rough and Marcus was lost with out her. They were born across the street from us in a window well and we took them and their litter mates and Momma in our house before their eyes were open. Found homes for all kittens. Momma had to be put down due to an illness she had that required a lot of hands on medicine. Since she was a feral, and so skittish and scared of us we, and the doctor, thought putting her down was the best for her. (He is fantastic and even with his skills, he had to anesticize her to check her out. He said even that had been hard on her.)

We had them for 16 years as a pair. (We also had this calico sister who died while we were in New York.)

We knew Marcus had a cataract. A week ago, last Friday, I got her in to see the doctor. Her eye was swollen, the lens was swollen and and milky white and the white was blood red. He couldn't see into the eye. We decided he would keep her that day, put her under so he could suture her right eyelids together to try to keep any bacteria out of her eye. On Saturday he sent her home with a liquid antibiotic and two different eye drops to give her two drops of each twice a day. He was hoping this would save the eye.

She has been SO GOOD taking her meds. I knew, on Wednesday, she was getting better because she started to fight me with the liquid.

Took her in today for a check up. doctor took the titches out and decided she needs to have her eye removed. (Will find out more when I pick her up this afternoon).

Around 4 this afternoon I go back to the vet, pick her up (her eye is sutured shut again) then she goes back in Thursday afternoon for surgery.

Poor little shit! I feel so sorry for her but I know this is the best. Dr Anderson has always been awesome with all of my fur children. I told him once he has better communication skills that most family doctors.

  3. Poor baby! Give her hugs from me. Were they completely ornery? I can see them getting into all kinds of mischief.
