I followed this link and found an easy pattern,

so I was "hooked."

Gingerbread Girl

I hope I will be able to crochet something special for Miss Elizabeth for each Christmas until I go to the great beyond for my reward, and get to pick up my "crown for heaven."

When I saw this pattern on the 12 Patterns of Christmas on Red Heart I fell in love.

I still love it, but I would make one major and one minor suggestion that I think would make the "baby mamma" happier: 
1. No Buttonholes . . . use snaps on the legs and the front of the romper. 
2. Find some cute buttons (peppermint candy would be cute) to place on the front of the romper to look like buttons.

Oh, as you can tell, if you look at the pattern, I reversed the colors on the vest . . . to be honest, I thought it was green so I picked up the green and discovered it should have been red, when I got to the underarms. No Way I was frogging or starting over.

I also left the white "rick-rack" off the vest and dropped the "bow" tie. I thought the white rick rack just made the vest look too busy and I couldn't figure out how the tie actually worked. Then thought, "If someone put me in this tie, I know I would have torn it off right away." So, no vest rick rack and no tie.

I LOVE the hat. I think I will make it again and again in different weight yarn and, maybe, add a pattern to the stitches . . . it just has a nice shape and is a great size for a cloche type hat.

Pony Tail Ski Hat

I have thick hair and, as I refer to it, a "big ass" head. That said, I am growing my pony tail one more time to donate it to Pantene for wigs for women.

However, it has been YEARS since I wore a pony tail in the winter and my ears are already cold. This lead me to make this hat.

the hat wasn't done yet.

It is bulky and warm. I wanted to make it as warm as possible, using the yarn I had on hand, so I added more yarn to make the turn up brim wider. This way, my ears will be covered by two thicknesses.

 I like the corkscrews, they just add some fun to the hat.

If you prefer a simpler design around the opening, I have included a picture and pattern for what I call “loopies.”

Then, of course, you might wish yours to be plain, I have included a picture of the hat before it was finished, at the top of this page, to show off the plain pattern.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Hat

It was time for our neighbor boy's 3rd Birthday.  Since I have been making the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" toy, I decided he needed that, the book and a hat to go with it.

Well, the toy was done, the book was bought but I still had to make the hat. So he got the first two for his birthday and the hat came a week later.

You know how you never know how a child will react to a gift, specially when it isn't a "fun toy" like the big, motorized, building toys, plus,  it's your birthday and all you can think is "open it."

On Friday, the birthday boy, his brother and momma joined the husband and I for the very popular Western New York Friday Fish Fry at a little neighborhood diner we have grown to love. Somewhere during conversation and eating momma said she had a thank you for us and since we live so far apart (a standard joke, our driveways are lined up with each other yet we never get things to each other on time) she hasn't had time.

After we got home from supper, and before the husband and I got inside, here comes momma, and the birthday boy, little brother was still buckled up in his car seat, with the card. I knew there would be a birthday pix in it . . and was it ever cute. But, behind it was this picture.

Looks like the birthday boy liked his presents, doesn't it?

Miss Lydia's Cocoon and Hat

Becky and Kenny received the BEST news . . the baby they were planning on adopting would be born 08 April 2013. The adoption is an open adoption . . . Becky was in the delivery room when Miss Lydia was born and, I believe, she cut the cord.

Becky is the daughter of an acquaintance from high school who became a close friend from the school I taught in. She is also a former student, so I consider her special . . . and, to top it all off, she is just "a good kid!"

I knew I wanted to make something special . . probably a receiving blanket and then look and see what's available.

The hubster and I made a trip to Joanne's to look at soft flannel . . . I found the PERFECT flannel . . . light pink with dark pink ballet slippers shadowed in gray. Since Becky was a ballerina all of the years she was in school, I knew this would be perfect.

I had them cut a square of the material, so it is probably 45" x 45" . . . I know it is larger than a normal blanket, but I wanted a square. I know it is larger than 36' x 36", but I am too lazy at the moment to measure it, so you will have to take my word for it.

I am doing a gray Blanket Stitch round the edging (folding the selvage under to make a hem) and have 3 sides done and will finish the fourth side after I finish what I am doing now. 

When the 4th side is finished, I will have to find an edging I like and who knows how long that will take to put it around this monster receiving blanket.

Here's my finished project.

Adaptations to the hat:

1. I left off the white edging . . why? I have no white yarn and I wanted to finish it.
2. I added two extra rounds to the hat. I wanted to make sure it was long enough to fit over the head. It fits my 15" ball, but just in case . . I'd rather have it longer that sliding up the baby's head.

Adaptations to the blanket: 

1. I made the cocoon "sack" 14" long.
2. I couldn't figure out the Crocodile Stitch pattern for the cocoon. I Googled the stitch and found a GREAT photo tutorial on My Merry Messy Life. (It is a two part tutorial . . foundation row and first row of actual crocodile stitches. Part 2 shows how to add the 2nd and 3rd rows and explains how to continue.) I changed the dc crocodile stitch on the pattern to the hdc crocodile on the tutorial. . . . I liked the smaller look for the blanket.
3. I made three rows of crocodile stitches instead of the two shown on the original cocoon.
4. I'm on my 3rd round of crocodile sts . . I think I will finish the cocoon with a round of sc.

Now, back to work . . . maybe I will get the cocoon finished today. I want to buy some pink ribbon to weave through the ribbing. I think it would soften it up some.

Butterfly Cloche

I have always been intrigued in the hats made with the little "butterflies" formed by making chains and then pulling them together to look like a butterfly.

I like how the butterflies look from the side.
The hat is made to have a butterfly over each ear
and one in the front.

But, if you have followed me long enough, you know I can't make something the normal way. I wanted my butterflies to be a different color, and texture, than the hat, so I combined sock yarn (because that was what I had in the basket next to my chair) and some #3 thread for the butterflies.

Pretty happy with the outcome. What do you think?

Baby Bunny Hat

I saw the C*U*T*E*S*T Baby Bunny hat yesterday on Teri Crew's blog page. AS a matter of fact, I liked it so much I started it last night and finished it this afternoon.

The original has a fluffy yarn around the ears and the edge. I didn't have any so I improvised.

I also changed the ears. The original pattern calls for just straight hdc rows. Instead, I repeated the pattern on the body of the hat. Also, My flower didn't "pop" like the one in the original . . .which had the same fuzzy yarn used to edge the ears as the bottom flower with a flower of the hat yarn on top. SO I whipped up three leaves which, I feel, finished it off.

Valentine Puppy

I don't have the pattern written yet but I wanted to get this posted before I left for home tomorrow.

Be Mine

I have loved this pattern, Be Mine, for a while. Today, I opened a sack that was just lying there and found yarn that I thought would look good, and VOILA! Here is my version of Be Mine.

The ball I used as my "model" is a 15" ball. This hat is lose on i t, so I hope it will stretch for a 16" head, if needed. The baby's brother was "big headed" when  he was born and Bridget may be the same.
