African Flower Coaster

This patten is based on the African Flower Hexagon listed in Ravelry. I have added a couple of things to make this hexagon work as a coaster.
Notice I ran out of Purple to finish the outside :0{

My preference, in coasters, is to make them a double thickness. I HATE it when the moisture from a glass or bottle, or the heat from a cup, saps through a coaster.

Make 2 flowers for each coaster . . . 1 for the front and 1 for the back. I was running out of the purple, and thought the pink might get too dirty too fast so I went with the solid back flower.

Materials Used:
I Love This Cotton, from Hobby Lobby (A. Purple, B. Pink and C. Cotton Candy)
Crochet Hook: E
Tapestry/Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc=double crochet
lsc = long single crochet
sc = single ccochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space

Round 1: With Color A, make a Magic Ring, ch 3 (count as first dc), 1 dc in ring, (ch 1, 2 dc in ring) 5 times, ch 1, join with sl st to first dc. Fasten Off.  (6 sets of 2 dc).

Round 2: Join Color B in a ch 1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in this space, and crochet in each of the 5 remaining chain-1 spaces: (2 dc, ch 1, 2dc). Join with sl st to first dc. Fasten Off. ( 6 sets of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc)

Round 3: Join Color C in one of the ch 1 sps, (ch 3, 6 dc) in this space,  and crochet 7 dc in each of the 5 remaining chain-1 spaces. Join with slip stitch to first dc. Fasten Off. (6 sets of 7 dc . . . or 6 shells)

Joining:
1. Match th backs of two flowers, lining up the 6 shells.
2. Using Color A, make a long crochet stitch in the space between the last of the 7 dc in one shell and the 1st dc in the next shell . . . this ldc should hook into th sts in Round 2. This will define the petal of the flower.
3. (sc in the next 6 dc, ldc in next st) repeat around and sl st to join.
4. I kept looking from the front to the back to make sure I hade my lsc lined up with the correct space.
If you make these coasters, please link to this posting when displaying them on your blog AND I would love to post your pictures here so others can see what you have made.
