Surgery D-Day +21 = 3 weeks

Three weeks have passed since the day of surgery. So many great things have happened.

First of all, I can't believe he didn't have to go to ICU after 10 h ours of surgery.

Second, he has looked so good during his whole "journey." One would have thought that after this type of surgery he would have looked like the old saying, "death warmed over" but he never has. He has always had his natural coloring. The only external sign that he might be having/had a problem(s) is his legs are swollen from all of the liquids he is still receiving via IV.

Third, he has been able to tolerate the food he has been allowed to eat. He even ate salad and the lettuce caused no problems so I would guess that his stomach is "churning" fiber like it should.

Fourth, he has had a MAGNIFICENT outlook of this expanse of time he has spent in the hospital. He has had a couple of spells where he was down, but it only lasted a few minute. I sure don't blame him at all. I don't know how I would react to what he has been through, but I'll bet I would be chomping at the bit to get out. He is just taking it one day at a time.

I know I am missing things, this has sure been an experience, to say the least.

  2. Thank goodness for a great attitude! Maybe we all should take his lead and live in the moment.

Here's something odd to look forward to - his calluses coming off his feet after returning home. DH was in the hospital for 3 weeks 12 yrs ago. We got him home and in the shower...his feet just shed. Nasty. Of course, his feet were heavily callused. Maybe Gene's feet aren't that way.
